The king of ragas, Darbari or Darbari Kanada is a serious raga and difficult to master. The meend (glissando) has to portray the crying of a king and it’s movement is very strict. It was composed in the 16th century by legendary musician Miyan Tansen who was a court musicians for the Moghul emperor Akbar The Great. 

The extremely popular evening raga said to be first sung by Miyan Tansen, a famous court musicians, in the 16th century.

A traditionally performed raga for the morning, however because many performances would last all night it is now also played/sung as the final piece in a recital.

This beautiful evening raga has a zig-zag movment, probably because it has been taken from an original song.

An early morning raga that has an almost chromatic feel but its rasa (mood) is serene and devotional.

A light raga generally associated originatING from the foothills of the Himalayas.

A highly emotional raga recomended to be played in the evening.

Not all ragas have ragamala painting and Charukeshi is one of them, it is actually ‘borrowed’ from the South Indian (Carnatic) tradition.

Created in the 15th century AD but derives from an older raga called Bilawal.
